Combat is a turn-based dice clash — initiative decided by level and strength, every blow an attack roll against a defense roll, with critical hits, misses, and hard-earned victories. But enhancement is a risk-versus-reward gamble, not a guarantee. Each item holds only a limited number of upgrade slots — one on Crude gear, up to seven on a Legendary. Every tinker is a skill check: the higher you've ground your crafting skills, the better your odds and the bigger the bonus — but fail, and you lose the material; botch a high-tier item and you can burn a precious slot for good. Each successive upgrade on the same item demands more skill and gives a little less, so a truly perfected weapon is a long, deliberate, nerve-testing project — and a masterpiece you built yourself, one calculated risk at a time. 🐾 Companions & the Kleffons You don't have to face the Dragonsea alone. Recruit human companions across a spread of classes — Warrior, Ranger, Assassin, Monk, and weavers of every hue — and win over the Kleffons, clever tailed creatures that roll their own size, wits, and opinion of humankind at the start of every game. Some adore you on sight; some almost hate you. Spare a healer at the edge of death and it may follow you home.
