You have to be up early tomorrow.
You turn off the lights, lie down, and start counting sheep. But before you get very far, an idea comes to mind. You get up in the dark, write it down, and go back to bed.
One. Two.
…Wait. There might be another way to make that idea work.
No Sleep Tonight is an incremental game about counting sheep and late-night inspiration. You keep trying to fall asleep, only to get back up to jot down another idea. Your eyelids grow heavier, but the workshop in your head only gets busier.
One sheep after another
Move your cursor close to the sheep to count them and gather inspiration. At first, just a few sheep stroll slowly over the fence. As you progress, the flock grows, and new faces become harder to keep track of.
Each round gives you a limited amount of time. Get up with the inspiration you’ve gathered, and prepare for another attempt at sleep.
Get up and write it down
Start with a blank slate. Spend your inspiration to unlock skills, improve your counting, bring in more sheep, or give yourself a little more time.
Follow your bedtime thoughts through the skill tree. New skills gradually become available, and the familiar flock begins to behave in unfamiliar ways.
All written down. Back to bed. Try again.
Sleepier, and busier
At first, the sheep simply cross the fence. Later, one sheep starts setting things off around another. Separate counts turn into chains, and more ideas follow.
You grow sleepier, but the scene in front of you looks less and less like it did when you first turned off the lights. Sometimes, before you’ve quite worked out what happened, you’re already getting up to write something else down.
Tomorrow’s work hasn’t started yet. Your mind has been busy for quite a while.
