You lost your job. The cat was free. That should have been the first warning sign. Now you're on government assistance that always seems to come through, feeding a cat that's always hungrier than he should be, and wondering, more and more, whether "free to a good home" was ever really true. He won't stay this way forever. Nothing here does. And when the time comes, you'll have to decide what he becomes next.. and what that decision says about you. Either way, somewhere out there, someone is keeping very careful track. This isn't the only cat. It won't be the last decision like this one, either.
