Or is it———— ________________________________________ Yoshifumi Akiyama is a part-time cram school tutor who has abandoned his dream of becoming a school teacher. One day on his way home, he is approached by a suspicious woman who wants to "scout" him as a private tutor. The pay is extraordinary. Struggling to repay his student loans, Yoshifumi decides to take the job. Following the address he was given, he arrives at a mysterious facility called the "Integrated Life Sciences Research Center." Led into a private room, Yoshifumi meets a young girl named Hamal. Before long, he discovers a shocking truth about Hamal and is forced to make a life-altering decision. ■ Characters 【Yoshifumi Akiyama】 The protagonist. The story is told from his perspective. He possesses an exceptionally strong sense of responsibility and self-control, which has become a burden to him. He once dreamed of becoming a teacher, but his passion withered after witnessing the corruption of "educators" and the harsh reality of the field. Just as he is about to give up his dream and seek other work, he is offered a high-paying tutoring job. At the mysterious "Center," he meets Hamal and falls into a carefully laid trap. Favorite drink: Ginger ale. 【Hamal】 The heroine. A "Chimera"—a composite lifeform created at the Center. She had never received an education until meeting Yoshifumi. She is incredibly eager to learn, growing rapidly as she acquires knowledge and wisdom. She possesses several abilities characteristic of a "superior specimen." Favorite drink: Hot milk. 【Yuko Fuyushiro】 A mad scientist. The woman who scouted Yoshifumi to the Center to be Hamal's tutor. She has poured her entire life into the existence of "Chimeras." She has recently noticed more fine lines and wrinkles on her face. Favorite drink: Cappuccino. 【Kiyomi Natsukawa】 Yoshifumi's mentor from his school days. He still consults her for life advice from time to time. One of the few people Yoshifumi can truly open up to. She has recently started worrying about her sagging midsection. Favorite drink: Iced coffee. 【Rikao Haruhara】 Yuko Fuyushiro’s "servant." He views Fuyushiro as an absolute authority. He leaves Yoshifumi with a cryptic warning regarding Hamal. Lately, his muscle aches don't start until the second day after exercise. Favorite drink: Tea. 【Shirou Yae】 An elite researcher and former subordinate of Yuko Fuyushiro. He chose a different path from Fuyushiro and seeks the "salvation of Chimeras." He is expressionless, as if devoid of all emotion. Lately, he finds people apologizing to him more often, even when he isn't angry.
