Despite post-war chaos and poverty, there was a breath of peace in the air. In A.C. 1930, a global economic depression struck countries worldwide, intensifying international tensions and internal divisions. The republic's military applied to the League of Nations Council for permission to increase its forces for maintaining domestic order and guarding the borders. This request was partially approved, and the republic's military was allowed to increase its personnel by several thousand. Young soldiers began enlisting in the ranks. Gertrude Rommel was one of them. Having lost her parents in the war, she fled from her stepmother's house and endured rigorous training at the military academy alongside her comrades. She was finally assigned as an officer in the 601st Field Military Police Battalion, the republic's first all-female unit.
