Will It Launch?

You are stranded on a planet that is entirely landfill. The only way home is a rocket, and the only material is the garbage. Will It Launch? is a co-op comedy about engineering. You scavenge junk, drag it back to the pad, and hold it together with duct tape, ratchet straps, bolts or welds. The rocket stands in your yard and grows every trip. When you think it is finished, you crank it upright, strap yourselves into the seats, and someone on the ground fires a flare into the ignition trough. Then you find out how good your worst joint was.Scavenge Nothing useful lies loose. Unbolt a part slowly and safely, cut it free fast and loud, or shove it and hope it does not land on you. Carry the small stuff, drag the heavy stuff, and get it back to the pad in one piece.Build Stack oil drums and water heaters, hang a cement mixer underneath as an engine, run a hose from the tank, bolt an office chair to the side. Every part is attached with one of four joiners, and every joiner shows its state from thirty metres away: tape sags, straps go slack, bolts stand proud, welds crack. Twelve strips of duct tape is a legitimate engine mount. It even passes the test.Test Pull the shakedown lever and the rocket groans under a fraction of launch load. Weak joints rattle and tape corners lift. Argue about it. Fix it, or don't.Launch Crank the rocket upright, strap in, and fire the flare. Joints keep failing all the way up. A successful launch is one where the failures happened to be non-critical.
