It all started with a sketch of one of the characters. Over time, more ideas emerged, until my wife and I turned it all into a concrete game project. I’ve been working in game development for years and thought, “What if I made and released a game myself? One that I want to make, not one a client demands.” Something from a gamer, for gamers. That’s how SU42: Hired Gun came to be—a classic side-shooter packed with action and tactics, offering varied gameplay depending on the chosen characters or on-screen situations. SU42: Hired Gun is designed to be an enjoyable game with classic gameplay but in a modern package. Plus, it’s meant to be accessible to everyone—no Early Access, just a full game available for 5$. It’s all about delivering good fun! You are a member of the elite USHF - United System Hired Forces, stationed aboard the star cruiser ORP "Dragon". The "Dragon’s" mission is to patrol the local system and serve as a deterrent to space pirates. During the journey, the crew is in hibernation—eight members (or maybe more...), and the ship is managed by the AI system "Mother." Mother receives an S.O.S. signal from the nearby planet SU-42, which an unknown cybernetic lifeform has invaded. Your task is to destroy and drive out the invaders. The cybernetic race is abducting the population and animals of SU-42, loading them onto gravi-trains. These trains transport their cargo to a hidden Hive Ship. Your mission is to seize the trains, gather intel on the Hive Ship’s location, and then destroy it. Take control of 4 trains operating in diverse climates—from deserts to jungles. Each train’s onboard computer is guarded by a unique Boss and Mini-Boss. Fighting on the trains isn’t just endless running to the right. Sometimes you need to stop, make a decision, or even backtrack to a previously locked passage. On the fifth and final level, you’ll face the massive Hive Ship, an army of the cyber race, and deadly bosses. But before you can stop a train, you have to reach it first. Here, the game pays homage to MDK with a flight sequence from orbit to the planet! Dodge projectiles and collect power-ups that will be available once you land on the train. You have eight mercenaries at your disposal, each differing in speed, attack, special abilities, and more. You can take two mercenaries into battle: one stays in the Combat Drop Ship while the other fights on the train. If needed, you can swap them at any moment. This changes the gameplay style, and the mercenary on the ship can heal their wounds. - Hand-painted graphics - Retro pixel art vibe with a modern twist - Tactical gameplay with character swapping mid-game - Unlockable characters with new abilities and weapons - Enemy AI reacts differently to player behavior— it won’t just mindlessly charge at you, though it likes to do that too.
