Keep the Light is a 2D top-down pixel art dungeon crawler where darkness is your greatest threat - and light is your only weapon.
Descend beneath a quiet village into an ancient, shadow-entrenched sanctuary. Freeze and outsmart the evil lurking in the shadows as you uncover lost secrets, gather valuable resources, and protect the town from the horrors buried below.
THE CRAWL: MASTER THE LIGHT
Venturing beneath the surface requires more than just sharp reflexes - it demands careful light management. Every floor in the sanctuary challenges you to balance survival against discovery, as you navigate the dangerous rooms.
- Your Beam is Your Defence: Darkness conceals deadly threats, environmental traps, and hidden paths. Keep your beam focused to maintain visibility and to reveal what lies ahead.
- Freeze Deadly Foes: Combat centers around decision-making rather than brute force. Focus your beam directly on the entities to freeze them in their tracks, opening up space to maneuver past hazards and plan your next move.
THE TOWN: UPGRADE AND REFUEL
The surface village acts as your safe haven away from the darkness below. Between dangerous descents into the sanctuary, return to the surface to rest, recover, and upgrade equipment for your next descent.
- Safe Haven: Speak to town residents and reset (regain extra life).
- Prepare for the Next Descent: Trade resources for upgrades and info.
ROADMAP & FUTURE
Keep the Light is currently in active development. The early build serves as the foundation for a much larger world, and feedback is central to shaping the game's future.
What's planned for the future:
- Expand Sanctuary Floors: New floors & levels, unique floor biomes, and environmental puzzles and challenges.
- New Entities & Mechanics: Additional foes with distinct behavior and counters, along with expansion of light tools and limitations.
- Town Progression: More distinct villagers, villager interactions, a shop and upgrade system, wildlife additions, and water interactions.
