Barrel Chess fuses 4 standard chessboards into one open barrel, joined edge-to-edge so there's no seam where the board actually ends. Same pieces. Same rules you learned as a kid. But slide anything sideways far enough and it doesn't stop at an edge - because there isn't one. It crosses clean onto the next board, then the next, looping all the way around the barrel if nothing catches it first. A rook you thought was trapped can suddenly attack from a direction that shouldn't exist. A king you thought was safe isn't, because "safe" on a normal board just doesn't mean the same thing here. Corner checkmates? Gone. There's nothing left to trap a king against. No walls, no corners, nowhere for your opponent to hide, and nowhere for you to hide either.
