BUILD FACTORIES. AUTOMATE PRODUCTION. THEN... ABANDON EVERYTHING!
Plexum is a third-person automation game where every planet is temporary. How temporary? You spend anywhere from 10 hours to 120 hours on a given planet.
10 hours seem too short? Only build what you need to: a miner here, a woodcutter there. Grab those resources for the next planet, through the network (depends on whether you unlocked it, but it'll keep accumulating!)
120 hours seem too long? Take your time exploring. Build elaborate factories. Gain experience. Find that deep ore, and then... put a miner on it for later!
Build increasingly complex production systems, extract their resources, survive their environment, and push your operation as far as you can before you're forced to move on.
YOUR FACTORIES STAY BEHIND... YOUR PROGRESS DOESN'T!
...
Got hooked? There's more info where that came from!
In plexum, you are taken by a mysterious technological marvel and carried across an ever-changing chain of planets.
Extract resources, design efficient production lines, and expand your capabilities — but nothing lasts forever. Each planet is a temporary opportunity, for both you and the marvel, to gather what you need.
As you travel, you’re forced to leave everything you built behind. Not all is lost, however — every system you create feeds into a larger progression, where planning, efficiency, and smart use of resources determine how far you can go.
plexum doesn't follow a fixed linear progression. Once you've learned the fundamentals, you're free to develop your own production systems, factories and planetary network.
How you approach each planet is up to you. Build only what you need and move on quickly, or stay for as long as you can and turn the planet into an industrial monster.
As it currently stands, the available content provides a few dozen hours of gameplay — and that will continue to grow as new content is released.
plexum currently contains 200+ item types and 40+ placeable objects, ranging from raw planetary resources and ores to manufactured components, machinery, tools and building parts.
- Gather and process 37 different types of ores
- Manufacture increasingly complex mechanical and electrical components
- Produce assemblies and industrial parts
- Build tools and machinery to expand your capabilities
- Create production chains where one machine's output becomes another's input
- Automate production as much as possible.
Production can grow from a handful of manually made items into elaborate chains spanning multiple tools, machines and processes.
Your production equipment won't always be able to operate in the conditions you find on a planet, and your production equipment can make those conditions even worse.
Construct factories from the ground up, using foundations, floors, structural frames, insulation, walls and roofs. Build and configure your production space and fill it with the machinery required for your operation.
Factories aren't just buildings - they're part of the production system itself.
Your tools affect the environment a factory has, while factory modules can be configured to keep those conditions under control. Manage temperature, atmosphere and other environmental factors to keep your machinery operating — and let the factory's waste spill out into the planet and deal with the consequences later...
- Traverse a chain of distinct planets
- Search for resources you need
- Adapt your operation to different environments
- Deal with differences in gravity, pressure, temperature and atmosphere
- Decide where and how to establish your operation
No two planets are guaranteed to give you the same resources in the same places. A resource that was easy to find on one planet, might require considerably more effort to locate on the next, if it exists at all.
The first two planets introduce you to the fundamental systems of plexum through objectives.
Once you reach the third planet, the game becomes timer-driven.
The ship will eventually decide that it's time to leave, giving you anywhere from 10 to 120 hours before that happens. Every planet has its own window of opportunity.
When you leave, your buildings and machinery stay behind.
You don't get to spend hundreds of hours perfecting a single factory forever. The challenge is to make the most of the planet while you're there - and to make sure the work you do contributes to what comes next.
Leaving a planet doesn't mean starting from nothing.
Your experience, knowledge, production capabilities and planetary network from part of your larger progression.
As your operation develops, you'll move from gathering resources manually toward increasingly complex manufacturing and automation. A planet that begins as an untouched world can eventually become one part of a much larger industrial network.
plexum begins with a short introduction to its fundamental tools and production systems.
After that, there isn't a fixed sequence of objectives telling you exactly what to build next.
You decide what to produce, where to establish your operation, which production chains to develop, how much to automate and how far you want to take things before the ship moves you on.
There is no single correct way to build your operation.
With the current content in the game, there's a few dozen of hours of gameplay, different for every person / playthrough:
