My Last War

STORY At the beginning of the 20th century, a conflict known as The Great War ravaged Europe, destroying most of its cities and wiping off an entire generation of adult men and women. Amidst the ruins of old Europe, teenagers fight a war they themselves didn't start. After experiencing a revealing dream, 19-year-old sergeant Maria Strauss decides she will do whatever it takes to stop the war. Can she do it? Will she succeed where so many others have failed? ... In this highly innovative and experimental visual novel, we have done something few others have tried: we took inspiration directly from early 20th century art to create a narrative that portrays the horrors of war properly, all the while still remaining loyal to the famous anime aesthetics and its tropes. CHARACTERS Maria Strauss is a 19-year-old German sergeant. The daughter of a college professor, she is well-read and has a good understanding of philosophy and literature. She likes to go to the theatre and opera houses. She also enjoys playing the violin in her spare time. Erika Barkhausen is a 23-year-old German corporal. She hails from a family of farmers from the Rhineland. Although not a particularly well-educated person, she sometimes displays a kind of rustic peasant wisdom which makes up for her lack of higher learning. Gustav Hoffmann is a corporal in the German army and a friend of both Erika Barkhausen and Maria Strauss.
