We Roll at Dawn

We Roll At Dawn is an action roguelite tower-defense game about building a floating island, defending its Sacred Tree, and deciding how much land you can protect. Each run begins with a small island and a roll of the Dawn Die. During the day, the roll determines how many tiles you can add. Expand the island, choose where different terrain types belong, and decide which spaces are worth using for towers. The land you build shapes the battle that follows. Grass, stone, gravel, sand, jungle, water, snow, lava, dark, and crystal tiles each give their towers different attack patterns and effects. Some towers fire quickly, some deal heavy area damage, and others slow, freeze, poison, root, chain, or curse their targets. When night arrives, construction stops. Portals open around the island and enemies begin moving toward the Sacred Tree. You take direct control of one of seven heroes and fight through the wave yourself, using basic attacks and four unique abilities while your towers defend the routes you created. The hero and the defenses are meant to work together. You may need to hold a weak point, protect an important tower, draw enemies away from the tree, or move into danger before a wave reaches the center of the island. The layout you created during the day determines where you can fight and how much time your defenses have to respond. Your island is not permanent. New sections can open, remote refuges can come under attack, and land that becomes disconnected from the main island can fall away along with anything built on it. Expanding gives you more room to build, but it also gives you more ground to defend. Choose from seven heroes: Paladin, Barbarian, Druid, Engineer, Mage, Ranger, and Rogue. Each hero has different strengths, attributes, abilities, and upgrade paths. Across runs, the Upgrade Tree gives you permanent ways to improve your heroes, unlock new abilities, strengthen tower and terrain branches, and influence future Dawn Die rolls. As the run continues, enemy waves become more demanding. New threats appear, special abilities change the way battles unfold, and boss encounters put your island under increasing pressure. Refuges can be rescued and developed, but they may also need to be defended from raids. Corruption brings another danger, forcing you to decide which parts of the island can be held and which may need to be abandoned. At first, the goal is simply to survive the next night. But the island is not all that remains. The Sacred Tree is gathering energy beneath its roots—energy that may be capable of reaching the damaged world below and healing what the corruption left behind. The tree can only help the world if it survives. Protect it, develop your refuge, and gather enough power to find out whether Dawn can still be restored.
