Shadow Play: Nezha hakkında
Journey to the West is over. The debts of the gods are not.
Shadow Play: Nezha is a 2D side-scrolling action Roguelite with Metroidvania exploration, inspired by Chinese mythology, traditional shadow puppetry, paper-cut art, and ink-wash painting.
You play as Nezha, the legendary warrior deity, awakening again and again in a world trapped within an endless cycle of calamity.
Long after the Journey to the West, Heaven launches a new campaign against the demons of the Northern Continent. The war begins to stall, and something far older than the conflict itself starts to surface.
The grudges left behind by the age of Investiture were never truly settled.
And old faces from the Journey to the West are being drawn into the chaos once again.
Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Li Jing, Zhong Kui, celestial gods, legendary demons, and many familiar figures from Journey to the West, Investiture of the Gods, and Chinese folklore will all appear throughout the story.
Every death begins another cycle.
Levels shift.
Enemies change.
Paths diverge.
Fate itself begins to move.
Armed with your spear, divine abilities, and the knowledge carried over from countless failures, you must grow stronger with every reincarnation.
Break the cycle with your spear. Challenge fate with your life.

Death is not the end.
What matters is what you bring back from your previous life.
🎭 Chinese Shadow Puppetry · Combat Performed on Stage
The entire world is presented like a living Chinese shadow-puppet performance.
Characters, environments, lighting, and combat are staged with a distinctly theatrical visual language.
- Real-time lighting recreates the translucent textures and projected silhouettes of traditional shadow puppetry
- Visuals inspired by Chinese paper-cut art and ink-wash painting
- Mythological characters and supernatural abilities reimagined through a shadow-theater aesthetic
- Strong emphasis on articulated silhouettes, light projection, and the distinctive motion of traditional shadow puppets
Luogujing Rhythm Combat
Traditional Chinese percussion is more than background music.
Combat flow, attack feedback, entrances, dramatic actions, and skill execution interact with the rhythm of Luogujing, the traditional percussion language used in Chinese opera.
Every clash becomes part of the performance.
Every battle becomes a piece of martial theater.

🐉 Gods Return · A New Myth After Journey to the West
The Journey to the West has ended.
But the gods, demons, grudges, and unfinished consequences of an older age have not disappeared with it.
Inspired by Journey to the West, Investiture of the Gods, and Chinese folklore, Shadow Play: Nezha reimagines familiar legendary figures within an original story.
Nezha, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Li Jing, Zhong Kui, celestial generals, gods, and demons will all cross paths in this new age of calamity.
Some may stand beside you.
Some may hunt you down.
Others may have their own reasons for keeping the cycle alive.
You will:
- Cross paths again with Sun Wukong, the legendary Monkey King
- Face Li Jing and the armies of Heaven
- Encounter Zhong Kui, the legendary demon-queller and ghost hunter
- Meet Zhu Bajie and other familiar figures from Journey to the West
- Witness characters from Chinese folklore, Journey to the West, and the age of Investiture collide within the same world
There is no simple line between good and evil.
A god is not always righteous.
A demon is not always wicked.
⚔️ The Unfinished Debts of the Gods
Nezha once sacrificed his own flesh and bones, returned through a lotus body, and eventually rose among the gods.
But his story did not truly end with the Investiture.
As forgotten gods return, Heaven marches to war, and ancient enemies emerge once again, Nezha must confront not only the calamity before him, but also the past he thought had already been buried.
Who decides what is divine and what is demonic?
Who decides what is righteous?
Is becoming a god a blessing—or another kind of prison?
Across countless cycles of death and rebirth, you will move closer to the truth behind the calamity.
And decide what kind of god Nezha is meant to become.
Journey to the West is over.
The gods are returning.
And the old debts are coming due.
