It's an interesting belief that even the smallest occurrences in life can lead to great consequences. In 1961, mathematician and meteorologist Edward Lorenz experienced this after rounding one input in his weather simulation from 0.506127 to 0.506. This seemingly insignificant change resulted in a vastly different weather pattern. This phenomenon helped establish chaos theory and later became associated with the term "butterfly effect" after Lorenz posed the question, "Does the flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?" If something as small as the flap of a butterfly's wing could eventually lead to the formation of a tornado, then perhaps the same principle can be applied to our everyday lives. If someone were to decide to eat an apple on their way to work rather than go hungry, perhaps that apple they ate in the car could lead to a fatal crash that never would have happened had they decided not to eat it.
On the other hand, perhaps that choice was never truly theirs to make and the outcome was predetermined by fate. According to fate, each of our lives could be represented by a single rope that we each pull along until we reach the end. Some may say that a rope can fray and split, resulting in branching paths and the illusion of choice.
Yet no matter how many times the rope frays, and no matter how many paths seem to emerge from it, a frayed rope still follows the same pull.
