THE HUNTING GAME THAT 1999 NEVER RELEASED
Trophy Rex is a first-person dinosaur hunt built the way a lost PlayStation-era game would have been: low resolution, chunky polygons, thick fog and a bitmap font. Under that look is a serious hunt. Animals see you, hear you and smell you on the wind. A bad shot does not kill. It starts a chase, or a charge.
STALK
There are 100+ species across 17 hunting grounds: fern valley, red canyon, frozen forest, jungle, open plains, an island, desert dunes, marsh and a river of giants...
Animals use sight, hearing and scent. Stay downwind, use cover and move slowly. Soft boots, a ghillie suit and scent cover all help.
Your binoculars name what you are looking at: species, bull, female or calf. That is where you choose your trophy.
Rain, snow and sandstorms change how far you can see, and how far they can.
SHOOT
Choose from 7 rifles, from a .243 varmint rifle to a .700 Nitro Express double, each with soft point and solid ammunition.
Bullets fly and drop. Use a scope or iron sights, hold your breath, ride the recoil and work the bolt.
Every animal has real organs, bones and arteries inside. The bullet travels through the body and wounds what it passes through. Armour, angle and penetration decide whether it gets there.
A hit log tells you what you struck, and the colour of the blood trail tells you how long to wait.
SURVIVE
Herds stampede. Bulls defend their females and calves, and they are the real trophies: bigger, tougher and harder to kill.
Predators come to the sound of the shot. Packs circle. Ambushers wait in the brush for you to follow the blood.
You bleed too. Bandage up, call the plane and stay alive until it lands. Die, and everything you tagged on that hunt is lost.
BRING IT HOME
Every trophy is weighed, scored and mounted in your lodge.
Spend the payout on better rifles, sidearms, ammunition, gear and licences for more dangerous grounds.
A field guide shows each species with its vitals on the model, so you know where to aim before you go.
Take a hatchling from a raptor nest and raise it. It follows you on hunts, warns you of danger and tracks wounded game.
