Shogi: Magic & Mischief

You read the board. Did you read the trick? Shogi: Magic & Mischief combines shogi (Japanese chess) with hidden information, rule-bending spells, and custom pieces and starting setups. That pawn might become a promoted threat without moving. Two defenders might swap places. A move from the fog might catch you completely off guard. Read the position, anticipate the trick, and turn the tables. The tricks are part of the rules. Promote a pawn on the spot. Swap two friendly pieces. Make two moves in a single turn. Use character spell sets and limited mana to disrupt your opponent's plans. In magic-enabled matches, capturing the enemy king wins the game. Save your mana or strike now? Choosing when to cast is part of the battle. What is hiding in the fog? With parts of the board concealed, use the information you can see to work out where the enemy is and what they are planning. Probe carefully or take a calculated risk. One hidden square can change everything. Toggle fog and magic to find the combination you enjoy. Your strategy starts before the first move. In Point-Budget Setup, choose your pieces within a point allowance and arrange them in your deployment area. Spend big on powerful pieces, or field more pieces to control the board. Your army and its formation are yours to plan. Don't just play shogi. Make it your own. Build starting positions in the setup editor, including symmetrical layouts that copy one side's formation to the other with a 180-degree rotation. In the Piece Workshop, combine single-square steps, leaps, and sliding moves to design custom pieces. Define their promoted forms and use them in custom-setup matches. Save your pieces and setups, then share them with other players using share codes. Challenge the CPU or a friend beside you. Test your tactics against the CPU or take turns with a friend on the same PC. For local games with fog enabled, players need to look away during their opponent's turn to keep hidden information private. In development Online multiplayer and a system for equipping and combining existing spell sets on original characters are planned. A free demo is planned to include fog shogi, point-budget setups, and PvP. The full game is planned to add free-form setups, custom pieces, and character creation with spell loadouts. The demo is not yet available.
