Halls of Nyarlathotep

You are the Dreamer, an ambitious astrophysicist whose search for answers led him beyond conventional science and into the Dreamlands. There, he struck a bargain with Nyarlathotep. Whatever happened next cost him his memory and left him cursed to wander the ever-changing labyrinths of the Dreamlands. Recover fragments of your past, uncover the terms of the bargain, and find out what you wanted from Nyarlathotep in the first place. Every attempt sends you into a newly generated labyrinth filled with enemies, weapons, Sigils and opportunities to change your build. You can carry two weapons, and finding another copy of one you already have raises its level. These upgrades can change how a weapon works, not just increase its damage. Challenge Rooms can reward run-only Perks, while Azoth survives death and can be spent on permanent upgrades between attempts. Push through successive levels of each biome, then face its boss before moving deeper into the Dreamlands. When you die, the run ends. Your weapons, Sigils and Perks are lost. Then you go again. The arsenal is built around distinct mechanics rather than conventional weapons with different stats. Wear the Forgeboar, a flaming boar that sets enemies ablaze so you can rush in and detonate them with a punch. Feed the Soulwarden .44 with the souls of your enemies, turning kills into ammunition and chaining targets together to avoid reloading. Flip through the pages of the Necronomicon to choose between different spells, including magic powerful enough to trade your own sanity for destruction. Push the Lightning Gun toward overheating, then turn that heat into higher damage and explosive discharges as the weapon levels up. You can also find occult Sigils during a run: single-use spells for healing, protection, destruction, setting the ground on fire or even summoning a ghostly dog to point you in the right direction. The labyrinths are procedurally generated, but special doors can appear during a run and lead into handcrafted Challenge Rooms and Lore Rooms. Challenge Rooms throw their own rules at you. Operate a cannon while a giant Dhol chases your boat. Cross a frozen ravine while a massive spider fires whenever you move. Hold your ground on top of a ritual pyramid beneath the Eye of Yog-Sothoth, or destroy a giant hourglass while tentacled eyes drive you mad. Complete a challenge and you can claim a Perk for the rest of the run. Some make you stronger. Some come with a cost. Lore Rooms go somewhere completely different. Step into fragments of the Dreamer's life and stranger corners of the Dreamlands: a black-and-white office filled with old letters, a childhood memory beneath the stars, or a dark room with a doorway opening onto Yog-Sothoth suspended in space. Each one reveals another piece of the world or the life the Dreamer no longer remembers. Enemies drain your Current Sanity while you look at them. Kill them or stay out of danger long enough and some of it comes back. Your Max Sanity is different. It slowly decreases throughout the run, leaving you with less and less room for mistakes. Let your sanity reach zero and the run ends. Each biome also has its own madness effect. In the Valley of Mnar, eyes begin appearing across your vision. On the Plateau of Leng, low sanity creates enemy mirages that can be difficult to tell from the real ones. Each biome lies under the influence of its own Outer God. Yog-Sothoth hangs above the Valley of Mnar. The Plateau of Leng lies beneath the Nameless Mist, with its herald Wen'thauq looming in the frozen sky. Their presence shapes each region, including its unique madness effects. Each biome ends in a major boss encounter with a soulslike structure translated into FPS combat: learn attacks, manage your positioning, find openings and strike back. Explore a side of Lovecraft's fiction rarely seen in games: the Dreamlands, shaped by stories that began before The Call of Cthulhu. Each biome brings its own environment, enemies, traversal mechanics, madness effects and cosmic presence.
