There, Ma’at weighs the soul’s heart against her feather of truth: if the heart is lighter than the feather, the soul is deemed pure and worthy of entering Aaru—the idyllic Field of Reeds where gods dwell. But if the heart is heavy with sin, it is devoured by Ammit, and the soul fades into the mists of Duat forever.
