Progress through various maps and difficulty tiers using permanent power-up upgrades and a bit (sometimes a lot) of luck. Fight the progressively harder onslaught of creatures all while traversing the procedurally generated maps as fast as possible to collect upgrades to combat meeting your untimely end.
