“Looking for a Property?”
While your classmates are landing jobs at well-known companies, you find yourself completely worn out by the job hunt.
Then one day, you happen to notice a help-wanted ad in town and end up taking a job at Odate Real Estate, a small neighborhood real estate agency.
Working alongside your boss, Hisui Odate, your job is to listen to your customers, search through countless listings, and recommend a home that suits each of them.
Rent. Floor plan. Distance from the station.
But those aren't always the only things your customers are looking for.
Listen closely to what they say, uncover the wishes hidden between the lines, organize their priorities, and find your own answer to the question of where they should live.
Listen and Find Out What They Really Want
Every customer begins with a conversation.
“I want somewhere close to the station.”
“I'd prefer a quiet neighborhood.”
“I want to keep the rent low, but I'd still like a spacious room.”
You won't always be able to satisfy every request at once.
What matters most to them?
What are they willing to compromise on?
Use every word as a clue and think carefully about the kind of life your customer is really looking for.
Search for Properties
Once you understand what your customer wants, it's time to use the property search terminal at your desk.
Search through listings using a variety of criteria, including rent, floor plan, location, and distance from the nearest station.
Narrow down the results, compare the available properties, and choose the one you want to recommend.
Sometimes you'll find exactly what the customer is looking for. Other times, something will have to give.
Which conditions you prioritize is up to you.
Make Your Recommendation
Once you've chosen a property, present it to your customer.
How they react depends on what you learned from the conversation—and on the property you decided to recommend.
A room that checks every box on paper isn't necessarily the perfect home for that person.
Consider each customer's circumstances and help them find the place that makes them think, “I want to live here.”
After Work...
When the workday ends, sometimes you simply head home.
You might suddenly remember that your taxes are due and panic, or look at your bank balance with a satisfied grin.
And on some evenings, Hisui might invite you out for a drink.
At your usual Chinese restaurant or local izakaya, she may open up about the problems facing the little real estate agency—and perhaps even tell you about her own past.
A Story About the City and Real Estate
As you continue working day after day, the situation surrounding the agency gradually changes—and so does your relationship with Hisui.
What kind of real estate agent will you become?
What kind of place will you help this little agency become?
The choices are yours.
