Each coworker has their own suspicion level toward you. If it gets too high, your former coworker will go get the manager, and he will start looking for you. Bribe the witnesses! A donut and a coffee are always a good solution. Keep them busy with figurines from the game room and get thirty glorious seconds where they could not care less about you.
