Island Off Outer Darkness follows the narrative of the Postman, a resident Postal Worker new to a small fishing village in Antarctic waters off the coast of a volcano (the titular Outer Darkness). They start new to the job, and must deliver packages to residents day-by-day, week-by-week. As they learn more about the island and its townsfolk, aberrations in space begin to appear. More broadly, Island Off Outer Darkness is an exploration of the grief of community collapse and personal withering. Featuring a 31-track OST by CalamityRhapsody and visual artistic work by several people, Island Off Outer Darkness is the story of this town, and these people.

- Leonargo, a scholarly sea people from the depths, fished up and localized a few years before Island Off Outer Darkness takes place.
- Aleks, an awkward farmer on the desolate rock and lover of his devoted partner Bucephalus.
- Bucephalus, Aleks' partner-turned-horse who has a love for botany and the culinary arts.
